NC native, OR resident Suzy Hooker is a visual artist, podcast host/producer, and fat activist.
Living her best life sunning on the banks of a river in WA (9/23)
Through the use of text and vivid colors in high-contrast compositions, I explore my intersectional identities as a fat queer Southerner in a post-Roe landscape. My multimedia practice includes painting, printmaking, and textile work, focusing on themes of misogyny, the Western beauty standard and fat hate, racism, homophobia, climate crisis, and the cruelty of late-stage capitalism.
The podcast that I co-host / co-produce (Fat and Fucked: Where Fat Sex and Fat Justice Collide) is ranked in the top 10% of all podcasts globally. Turns out that fat people deserve dignity and respect, and they have a lot of sex, too. Be fat, be fab, and be free! Find Fat and Fucked anywhere you listen to your pods.
Currently, I reside in Portland, OR, where I am an aspiring bog witch practicing to become a tattoo artist. LIKES: cold-water swimming, fresh art supplies, sequins on fat bodies, and breaking the cycles of generational trauma. While I don’t miss the humidity of the US South, I sure do miss the people.
